In 2018, the European Union organized a conference on the opportunities and challenges of developing plant proteins in the EU. As part of the conclusions, participants agreed that growing EU plant proteins has considerable potential: economically, environmentally, and socially. Panel members emphasize that consumer trends increasingly focus on more sustainable and healthy diets. The potential of protein-based food was recently confirmed in a report issued by Bloomberg Intelligence and called Plant-Based Foods Poised for Explosive Growth. The report highlighted that the value of the global plant protein market represents $29.4 billion in 2020 and could surpass $162 billion by 2030, which would make up 7.7% of the global protein market.
